Consultation Groups for Therapists
Clinical consultation and peer consultation group for interns, new grads, and therapists who want to build real clinical skills, confidence, and a fuller caseload.
I've spent my career in the settings where clinical work gets tested the most, where there is no time to overthink and no room to fake it. Along the way, I kept ending up in the same role without ever applying for it: the person other therapists came to when a session went sideways, when a case felt over their head, or when they had a question they were too nervous to ask out loud.
I never sought that role out. It just kept finding me, because I've always believed that good clinical work is meant to be shared. When you figure something out, you pass it on.
Where I've built this experience:
Community mental health
Residential treatment
Mobile crisis
Inpatient psychiatric units
Psychiatric emergency intake
School-based mental health programs
Group private practice and solo private practice
Clinical team leadership and informal mentorship across every one of those settings
That instinct to teach, mentor, and pass on what I have learned is the whole reason this group exists.
Hi, I'm Emily.
No Blank Slate
I don't believe in showing up to a session as a blank slate, and I don't teach that way either. With my own clients, I bring warmth, humor, directness, and my full self into the room. I have opinions. I react. I laugh. I am honest when something isn't working. That presence is not separate from the clinical work, it is part of what makes the work move.
I teach the same way I practice. In this group, you will not get a detached expert reciting theory at you. You will get a real person who will tell you what she actually sees in your case, push back when it's useful, and show you what it looks like to stay authentic with a client instead of hiding behind a role. If you want to build a practice where you can be fully yourself and still be a skilled, trusted clinician, this is that kind of room.
Why I Teach
I have had so many clients walk into my office carrying not just their original pain, but the extra weight of a bad experience with a previous therapist. Someone who missed what was actually happening in the room. Someone who stuck too rigidly to a model instead of meeting the person in front of them. Someone who meant well but never got the training or mentorship to grow past where they started.
I don't think that happens because therapists don't care. I think it happens because so many of us are sent into this field with strong theoretical knowledge and almost no real practice applying it. Grad school teaches you the map. It rarely teaches you what to do when a client goes silent, when a session stalls, when your gut tells you something is off and you don't have the language for it yet.
I want to help close that gap. Every therapist who gets more skilled, more attuned, and more confident is a win for every future client who walks into their office. That is what drives this work for me.
What This Group Is
This is a small, live group for therapists who want to sharpen their clinical skills in real time. We work on:
Stuck sessions and how to navigate them
Trauma informed care in practice, not just in theory
Diagnoses and how to think through them clinically
Crisis planning
Imposter syndrome, and it is common, so you are not the only one
Building rapport, especially with clients who are hard to reach
Explaining therapy concepts to clients in language that actually lands
Documentation that protects you and serves the work
Building confidence in session
We also make room for role play. You bring the client who is challenging you, the intervention you are not sure how to introduce, or the moment you froze in session, and we work through it together, out loud, in real time.
This is not a lecture. It is a focused hour of clinical insight, skill building, and direct feedback designed to make you a stronger, more effective therapist.
Who This Is For
This group is built with interns, new grads, and early career therapists in mind, therapists who want to learn what you didn't learn in grad school and build confidence and clinical range faster than solo practice alone allows. If your graduate training gave you theory but not enough practice, or if you are early in building your caseload and want to walk into sessions feeling steadier, you are exactly who this is for.
Seasoned therapists are also welcome. Skill building does not stop at a certain number of years in the field, and clinicians at every level bring something valuable to this kind of group. If you have been practicing for a while and want a space to sharpen your skills, get outside perspective on a case, or simply keep growing, come join us.

I keep these groups small on purpose, capped at 8 members, so everyone gets real feedback.
Therapist Consultation or Clinical Skills & Mentoring Groups are not affiliated with EMDRIA and does not offer credit toward EMDRIA certification. I do not hold Approved Consultant or Consultant in Training (CIT) status with EMDRIA at this time. I am a trauma therapist who uses IFS and EMDR in my clinical work with clients. If you are seeking consultation hours toward EMDRIA certification, please work with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant or Consultant in Training.
